Space & Practicality

Rating

The practicality of the Kia EV9 is highlighted by its thoughtful design choices and versatile seating options. Available as a 6 or 7-seat version at the same price, the 6-seat configuration provides a more comfortable cabin with improved access to the back. While the boot is snug with the back row up, it still outperforms some 7-seat SUVs in terms of space. The back row of seats proves to be surprisingly comfortable and well-suited for everyday use compared to competitors. The middle row, consisting of two seats in the 6-seat model, is both comfortable and practical. One notable feature is the ability to turn these seats around to face the back, offering enhanced flexibility, particularly beneficial for individuals with reduced mobility. The Kia EV9's clever design ensures there's an option to cater to the needs of various users, making it a well-rounded and adaptable choice.

Equipment and Safety

Rating

The car's interior is filled with technology, similar in design to the EV6. The dual screens display various controls, and there are few physical buttons, mostly haptic. The seats in the GT line model are adjustable, heated, ventilated, and even offer massages for comfort. Despite the initially overwhelming tech, it aims to make driving a large car more comfortable. The cockpit feels somewhat like a spaceship, with controls for EV info, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and detailed climate settings. However, the replacement of the rearview mirror with a camera view feels a bit like technology for technology sake. While impressive to look at, the unusual field of view can be distracting and not very clear at night, with headlights causing a halo effect. Fortunately, the camera can be turned off if desired. Other safety kit is generous and a lot more useful with features like Blind Spot monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control and an excellent surround view parking system.

Performance & Running Costs

Rating

The EV9 has a commanding presence on the road. While it may seem bulky at first, it's important to consider that most 6 or 7-seater in this category are equally large. For those accustomed to bigger vehicles, the EV9 won't be a huge adjustment. The electric power adds a unique touch to the driving experience, providing impressive acceleration with around 384ps. It excels in straight-line speed, although it's not designed for aggressive cornering. The immediate power uptake is impressive, especially for those transitioning from a diesel SUV. In terms of range, the EV9 appears to live up to its claims, with an estimated comfortable capability of 450/460km. Even motorway speeds don't appear to have a massive impact on the battery, making it suitable for commuters.

Reliability & Residuals

Rating

The Kia EV9 marks a substantial progression within the brand's SUV lineup, particularly noteworthy as a seven-seater model. Amidst the highly competitive SUV market, the EV9 distinguishes itself as a compelling contender, blending style and comfort with advanced technology. An added advantage is the unique electric powertrain, contributing to its overall appeal. Moreover, the EV9 provides an extra layer of confidence with its generous seven-year warranty, making it a well-rounded and dependable choice for those in search of a spacious and reliable family SUV
