We Irish love cars like this – simple, straightforward and long lasting. The Almera is not a design winner but has built its reputation on reliability and value for money. It is a sturdy machine with the emphasis on practicality and a fairly comfortable interior. There are plenty of really good bargains around. It is an ideal car for beginner drivers too as it’s easy to drive and cheap enough to maintain. The interior gives you enough space for five, there’s decent head room and fair leg room and a good-sized boot. There’s a good level of standard kit and safety features. On the road, the Almera is easy to drive. It handles well and is solidly planted to give good grip. There are three engines; two petrol and one diesel. They’re quite nippy but manage to maintain decent fuel economy and low emissions.
