Volkswagen unveils enhanced ID.4 and ID.5

Upgraded models are available for preorder now

Overview

Volkswagen is now offering pre-sales for its upgraded ID.4 and ID.5 electric models, featuring significant enhancements in both technology and performance. The most notable changes include a brand-new infotainment system and a high-efficiency electric drive. The updated ID.4 and ID.5 models provide a fresh take on intuitive operation, improved cockpit features, and an enhanced driving experience.

Key Highlights:

Enhanced Infotainment: The ID.4 and ID.5 have been equipped with the latest-generation software and a new standard infotainment system, boasting a larger 12.9-inch screen with a new menu structure. The Digital Cockpit (digital instruments), augmented reality head-up display, and illuminated touch sliders for climate and volume control have all been improved. Additionally, the IDA voice assistant now offers more precise voice commands, along with new functions such as cloud-based weather information and real-time updates on sporting events and stock market prices. An optional Harman Kardon premium sound system with 480 Watts and 10 speakers is available for both models.

High-Efficiency Drive: A new electric drive motor and battery technology have significantly reduced energy consumption while increasing power. Rear-wheel-drive models now feature an electric drive motor with 210 kW (286 PS), offering 60 kW more power than their predecessors, resulting in a substantial boost in torque. The all-wheel drive GTX models are upgraded to a system power of 250 kW (340 PS), improving dynamic performance and achieving a faster 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds.

Extended Range: Thanks to the new electric drive, the ID.4 now boasts a range of up to 550 kilometers (WLTP), while the ID.5 reaches up to 556 kilometers on a single battery charge. The charging and thermal management systems have also been improved to ensure faster recharging during long journeys.

Comfort and Dynamics: The running gear and adaptive chassis control (DCC) have been refined for a more comfortable and dynamic driving experience.

Price and Availability: Prices for the upgraded ID.4 start at €57,430 (€53,930 after grants) for the ID.4 PRO model.

Volkswagen aims to retain its position as Ireland's top-selling electric vehicle with these updates. Alan Bateson, Brand Director for Volkswagen Passenger Cars Ireland, expressed confidence that the new enhancements to the ID.4 and ID.5 models will keep them at the forefront of the electric vehicle market.
