Overview

Peugeot has unveiled a plug-in hybrid 3008SUV (pictured). The 4WD model develops a combined 300bhp but emits only 29g/km (1.3litres/100km).

It goes on sale Europe-wide from next month with Irish prices and spec due closer to launch.

It can travel up to 59km in 100pc electric mode. There is a 200bhp petrol engine and two independent electric motors powering the front wheels with a 112bhp electric motor on the rear axle. An 8spd auto gearbox is standard. A full charge takes 1h 45m using a Wallbox (7.4kW).

Shortly after launch will come a 225hp two-wheel-drive version. It will combine a 180hp petrol engine with a 110hp electric motor out front. It too gets an 8spd auto transmission.

THE Cannonball supercar spectacle begins on Friday (through to Sunday) with proceeds going to the Irish Cancer Society.

Lined up are some great motors from the likes of McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche, Maserati, Rolls Royce and Bentley. In all, some 190 vehicles are raring to go. The largest organised roadtrip in Europe has already raised €1,016,000 for Irish charities.

Fuelled by milesPlus from Circle K, it will go from Malahide to Fermoy, Ballymaloe, Killarney, Limerick, Ballina, Sligo, Slane and end in Edenderry. There will be festivals in all the host towns.

MOTOR Distributors Limited (MDL), importers of Mercedes vehicles, have announced that Patrick Finnegan will take over as chief executive officer from early December after joining the company this month.

He succeeds current chief executive, Stephen Byrne, who is retiring after 44 years with the company. A member of the Institute of Bankers, Mr Finnegan has held several senior management positions, mostly in finance, insurance and global security.

THE Connolly Motor Group has acquired Hyundai Galway. Ownership of the dealership at Ballybrit and the service centre in Oranmore will increase the number of full-time employees at the group to 280 (including the 31 staff at Hyundai Galway).

The company says it expects more jobs in Galway as it builds on its investment.

The group is run by brothers Kevin and Neil Connolly.
