At CarsIreland, we believe it is important that our website and services are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We strive to comply with the European Accessibility Act and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA.
What services does our website provide to which the EAA applies?
- CarsIreland offers a consumer search experience, ability to submit enquiries inclusive of email leads or finance enquiries and the ability place a private ad.
How do the services that must comply with EAA work?
- Search: Allow a user to input search criteria and navigate to a custom results page
- Submit enquiries: Allow users interact with forms on our site to gather further info on a vehicle they are looking to purchase
- Place an ad: Allow users to place an ad on site to help them sell their vehicle to other private individuals
What efforts do we make to make our website accessible?
In order to reach the widest possible audience we took the following measures:
Perceivable
(Information and components are perceivable in different ways)
- Alternative text for visual content: We provide descriptions for images, videos, and other visual elements we own so that visually impaired users can understand the content.
- Transcriptions: We provide transcriptions for audio content we have created so that people who are deaf or hard of hearing can also access the information.
- Subtitles: We provide captions for videos with sound we created, so that the deaf and hard of hearing can also access the information.
- Live captions: For live videos with sound we have created, we provide captions.
- Meaningful order: The tools used ensure that the content of our website is displayed in the correct order.
- Understandable instructions: our instructions are understandable for everyone.
- Rotating content: the content of the screen rotates with the display of the device.
- Clear input fields: with input fields, we make it clear what we expect from the user (e.g. auto-fill e-mail address)
- Sufficient colour contrast: we ensure a strong contrast between text and background, so that people with a visual impairment or colour blindness can also read the text better.
- Flexible text size and zoom functionality: users can adjust the text size or zoom in (up to 200%), without losing functionality or readability.
- Real text: We don't use images to represent text.
- Visible content: We make sure that the text is still fully visible when it is enlarged.
- Sufficient contrast: The content on the screen has sufficient contrast with the surrounding color.
- Spacing between text: we ensure sufficient spacing between paragraphs, words and letters, so that people with dyslexia can read faster.
- Automatic information: it is possible to hide information that automatically appears on the screen by touching the screen.
Operable
(Users must be able to control all functionalities)
- Unwanted keyboard shortcuts: Keyboard shortcuts are not triggered unexpectedly by use of tools.
- Keyboard navigation: Our website and services are fully usable without a mouse, so that people with motor disabilities can also navigate easily.
- Sufficient time to complete tasks: Users are given sufficient time to fill out forms or perform actions without abrupt sessions.
- Avoiding flashy elements: we limit the use of flashing or fast-moving content to prevent e.g. epileptic seizures.
- Clear titles: Each screen has a clear title, which tells users what screen they are on and what they can do.
- Predictable and consistent navigation: We ensure that menus and controls function in a logical and consistent manner across all pages.
- Clear links: links are clear, even without the surrounding content. Users can use tools to request an overview of links on the screen.
- Multiple ways: Screens in a website can be accessed in multiple ways.
- Headings and labels: Our headings and labels are clear, so users can navigate headings using a screen reader.
- Visible focus: we make it clear where the focus of the tools is.
- Activation by a click: a button is only activated by a click, not by a touch.
- Same naming: the technical name of an operable element is the same as the visual name
Understandable
(Information and operation should be easy to understand)
- Set language: The language is set for all content, and a screen reader reads all the text that appears on the screen.
- Change language: You can switch between languages if content is available in multiple languages.
- Predictable in focus: it is predictable what happens in focus.
- Predictable on input: It is predictable what happens when data is entered.
- Same navigation: The navigation is in the same place on every screen.
- Same functions: Icons have the same function on every screen.
- Indicate errors: We indicate when data is entered incorrectly.
- Clear instructions: We provide clear instructions when users need to fill in data.
- Propose solutions: We propose solutions to correct incorrectly entered data.
- Prevent errors: We make sure that errors in submissions can be prevented.
Robust
(Compatibility with various technologies and future developments)
- Error-free code: We make efforts to ensure the source code of the website is free of errors and does not use an outdated feature.
- Role and name: We make efforts to ensure all interactive elements have a correct name and role.
- Status notifications: We also pass these on to resources.
- Support for different browsers and devices: Our website is functional on desktops, tablets, and mobile devices, regardless of the operating system.
Are there any improvements possible?
We strive to be fully compliant with WCAG 2.1 level AA standards. Although we make a lot of efforts, it is possible there are still room for improvement in how our site has been set up. We will continue to further optimise our site for improved accessibility inclusive testing for accessibility issues as we introduce or further integrate with new technologies.
