Alfa Romeo Ireland partners with Mondello Park in a landmark sponsorship

Overview

A Partnership Fuelled by Heritage and Performance

Alfa Romeo Ireland has announced a new partnership with Mondello Park, becoming the official sponsor of one of Irish motorsport’s most iconic features — the Mondello Park bridge. The collaboration also sees two standout Alfa models take on official duties as the circuit’s safety cars: the high-performance Giulia and the brand-new, all-electric Alfa Romeo Junior.

The announcement coincides with a special milestone for the Italian brand, as Alfa Romeo celebrates its 115th anniversary in 2024 — a legacy steeped in motorsport history, both globally and here in Ireland.

A Racing Connection That Runs Deep

Alfa Romeo’s motorsport roots in Ireland run back nearly a century. In 1929, the very first Irish Grand Prix, held at Phoenix Park, was won by Boris Ivanowski in an Alfa Romeo 6C. Two years later, in 1931, Henry Birkin secured victory in the Éireann Cup behind the wheel of an Alfa 8C. Although that race marked the final Grand Prix on Irish soil, Alfa’s involvement in events like the Leinster Trophy and Mondello Park races has endured.

Mondello Park itself has welcomed motorsport legends over the decades — including Ayrton Senna, Mika Häkkinen, and James Hunt — while also playing a vital role in developing Irish talent like John Watson, Eddie Irvine, and Eddie Jordan.

Giulia and Junior Lead as Safety Cars

With the Alfa Romeo name now proudly displayed on the bridge that spans Ireland’s only international race circuit, the brand’s presence is more than symbolic. The Giulia, known for its distinctive Italian styling and performance, and the new Alfa Romeo Junior — the marque’s first fully electric model — will serve as official safety cars at Mondello’s major track events.

John Saunders, Head of Alfa Romeo Ireland, commented:

“The Mondello Park bridge is an iconic feature of Irish motorsport, and we’re honoured to see the Alfa Romeo name featured so prominently. With the Giulia and the new Junior leading the safety fleet, we’re also showcasing the power and dynamism that define Alfa Romeo today.”

A Shared Vision for the Future

Roddy Greene, Managing Director of Mondello Park, welcomed the collaboration, stating:

“The brand’s legacy in motorsport and commitment to excellence aligns perfectly with our vision for the future of Irish racing. The addition of the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Junior to our safety car fleet elevates our track presence and adds a touch of Italian flair to every race day.”

This partnership marks a new chapter for both Alfa Romeo and Mondello Park, uniting two brands with a shared passion for performance, innovation, and the spirit of competition.
