We seem to want more upmarket spec and trim on our cars all the time.
Ford say it is an expanding market and have just added five new models decked out in what they call ST-Line.
They include the EcoSport, Mondeo, Kuga, S-MAX and Edge. They all have sport suspension, special body kits, alloys, sport seats, steering wheel and some details around the cabin.
Engines include the 1-litre EcoBoost with up to 125PS in the EcoSport and the 2-litre diesel with up to 210PS in the Kuga.
These five are in addition to the existing Fiesta and Focus ST-Line versions.
Basically, these cars are for people who like a bit of sporty image but don't want to pay for the super-duper performance of ST (that's why they're called ST-Line).
So the ST-Lines have only the higher-powered engine derivatives to go with improved driving dynamics and sport suspension.
A sample of spec: the 1-litre EcoBoost EcoSport ST-Line includes 17ins alloys, SYNC 3 Navigation, 8ins touchscreen, DAB radio, emergency assistance, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, 2 USB sockets, 6 speakers, body-styling kit and sports-tuned suspension. Prices from €28,180.
The Mondeo has 18ins alloys, SYNC 3 with 8ins touchscreen, partial leather sports seats, LED daytime running lights. The 2-litre 150PS diesel starts from €37,195.
The Kuga ST-Line has similar stuff on board and costs from €36,195 for the 1.5 litre TDCi 120PS.
Same for the S-MAX 5-dr 1.5 litre EcoBoost petrol 160PS, which starts from €41,065.
The Edge ST-Line has 20ins alloys, hands-free electric tailgate and key-free system, Sony DAB nav with 12 speakers, rear view camera, etc. The 2-litre TDCi 180PS version starts from €50,425.
