More power to the F-Type: Jaguar beefs up revised two-seater, due here in May

The Jaguar F-Type sports car - has just benefited from a major overhaul and is due here next May

Overview

One of my favourite motors - the Jaguar F-Type sports car - has just benefited from a major overhaul and is due here next May (no prices yet).

It was always quick and powerful, but the F-Type 'R' version should be something as its 575PS supercharged V8 propels it from zero to 60mph in just 3.5 seconds.

The current model was taut and sprightly; an uprated chassis with new springs, dampers, anti-roll bars and rear knuckles should make it even more so.

A less extreme version with a new 450PS supercharged V8 model joins the ranks with rear-and all-wheel drive.

There is Quickshift transmission for faster gear changes.

But the little two-seater can't be all about, or for, petrol-head motoring.

Inside there is a new 12.3ins interactive driver display, Meridian audio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to keep you connected.

Software-over-the-air means updates are at your convenience and you don't have to book in with your dealer.

Some details include monogram stitch patterns in the seats and door trims and Jaguar Leaper motifs in the headrests.

All engines - 300PS turbocharged 4cyls and the 450PS and 575PS V8s just mentioned - have active exhaust systems.

But Jaguar insists the 'distinctive crackle and pop' that makes driving this such fun will remain.
