Volvo has just announced a major safety breakthrough
Volvo has just announced a major safety breakthrough - a world-first multi-adaptive safety belt, designed to offer even better protection for everyone on the road.
Debuting in the fully electric Volvo EX60 in 2026, this next-gen seat belt uses real-time data from the car’s advanced sensors to automatically adjust its protection based on the individual and the crash situation. It factors in details like a person’s height, weight, seating position, and even the severity of a collision — providing stronger restraint when needed, or reducing pressure to minimise injuries.
The system expands traditional safety belt settings from three to eleven, allowing for much more tailored protection. Plus, like many modern Volvo innovations, it will improve over time via over-the-air software updates.
This latest development builds on Volvo’s rich safety legacy — the brand famously introduced the three-point safety belt back in 1959, a feature credited with saving over a million lives to date.
Another impressive step from Volvo as it continues to lead the charge in automotive safety.
