ALFA’S Stelvio Quadrifoglio, claimed to be the fastest SUV in its class, has just gone on sale.

The company’s top-line model has a 2.9-litre bi-turbo V6, all-wheel drive and costs from €118,795.

Under normal driving the Q4 all-wheel-drive system transfers 100pc of torque to the rear axle, but it can switch as much as 50pc to the front if needs be.

This Quadrifoglio model also has Alfa’s Chassis Domain Control, which coordinates and orchestrates all the electronic systems.

It’s heavily endowed with the likes of Torque Vectoring standard and the electronically controlled clutches in the rear differential, making it possible to control how much power gets to each wheel.

The 2.9 V6 generates 510hp and the car can zip from a standing start to 100kmh in a mere 3.8 seconds. There is a special 8spd auto transmission.
