Space & Practicality

The BYD Sealion 7 offers excellent practicality for a mid-size electric SUV. A large 520-litre boot provides ample room for family life, while an additional 58-litre frunk offers a handy space for storing smaller items like a cabin bag or charging cables. Rear seat space is generous, with a completely flat floor making it more comfortable for middle-seat passengers. Leg and headroom are both strong, even for taller adults, and ISOFIX points are easily accessible. Useful features like rear seat heating, recline adjustment, and USB charging ports ensure back-seat passengers are well catered for.

Equipment & Safety

The Sealion 7 is well equipped across the range, with even the entry-level Comfort model offering vegan leather upholstery, a glass roof, and BYD’s signature rotating touchscreen as standard. The mid-spec Design model adds 20-inch alloy wheels, upgraded finishes and all-wheel drive, while the top-spec Excellence model brings in Nappa leather, a heads-up display, and DC charging up to 240kW. Other highlights include customisable ambient lighting, multiple device key access (card, phone, and smart watch), and a user-friendly infotainment setup. The Sealion 7 has also been awarded a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, with a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems available across all trims.

Performance & Running Costs

Performance is a standout feature in the Sealion 7 range. The entry-level Comfort model produces 313hp and offers a range of up to 486km from its 82kWh battery. The AWD Design model boosts power to 513hp, while the Excellence trim combines 530hp with a claimed range of over 500km, thanks to its larger 91kWh battery. On the road, the Sealion 7 delivers strong acceleration and confident handling for a vehicle of its size, while still managing to maintain a composed, comfortable ride. With a full suite of energy-saving tech and competitive efficiency figures, it promises low running costs compared to petrol or diesel alternatives.

Reliability & Residuals

As with all BYD models, the Sealion 7 comes with a generous 6-year/150,000km manufacturer warranty, plus an 8-year/200,000km battery warranty for added peace of mind. Competitive pricing, strong equipment levels, and powerful performance make it one of the more appealing electric SUV options currently on the Irish market, especially for families seeking both practicality and power.
