Dacia meets huge family demand for 7-seater with the new Jogger

Overview

Many manufacturers have abandoned the 7-seat family car segment. I wonder if they are regretting it now when they see that Dacia have overflowing order books for their newly arrived Jogger.

Dacia expects to get 500 models for the Irish market but they are nearly all snapped up. Families are always in need of more space and the Jogger is one answer to that.

Launch prices are from €23,290 but there is an increase of €900 from June 1.

Such is the confidence Dacia has in this new car that they reckon it will eventually outdo the iconic Duster. That is saying something.

There are three trim levels – Essential, Comfort, and Extreme SE. Standard spec includes air con, cruise control and rear parking sensors. There are just two options – metallic paint and a spare wheel.

There are also three multimedia systems.

The seating, split-folding, etc, has nearly 60 possible configurations. The rear seats can be removed entirely. And the second row can tip forward leaving an enormous amount of room.

From launch, the Jogger is powered by the new TCe 110 turbocharged petrol engine. A hybrid, Dacia’s first, will follow in 2023.

The car – at slightly more than 4.5m long – has, Dacia claims, the room of an MPV and the styling of an SUV.

The extra length means it yields space and versatility similar to cars that are much bigger. Not that you’d be taking it off-road, but there is 200mm of ground clearance.

As I’ve said there is huge demand for budget 7-seaters. Dacia would appear to be about to benefit from that in a big way.
