Overview

The all-new Renault Megane E-Tech electric has been awarded the maximum five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.

The snazzy hatchback with SUV styling is built on the CMF-EV electric car platform and is available with two battery options: 40kWh for a range of up to 300km (WLTP), and 60kWh for up to 470km.

AC 22 and DC charging up to 130kW are standard, achieving faster charging and up to 300km in just 30 minutes.

Contributing to the impressive occupant safety are its seven airbags, while there’s a total of 26 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) onboard.

The suite of safety software is divided into three categories: driving, parking and safety.

Topping the list is Active Driver Assist, which is now classed as “Level 2” vehicle autonomy, combining adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane keeping assist and rear automatic emergency braking.

There’s also speed limiter, which uses a front camera and the navigation system to determine the current speed limit and adjusts accordingly, and Occupant Safe Exit (OSE) which warns occupants of any approaching vehicles or cyclists as they open a car door.

The new EV, which will arrive at the end of the year, has a QR code on the windscreen, which in the event of an accident can be scanned by rescue teams to show the location of the car’s battery and airbags – saving fire crews 15 minutes.
