Ireland’s most iconic EV Is back – And better than ever
A Fresh Start for a Familiar Name
The Nissan LEAF has been around since 2010, and with nearly 700,000 units sold globally, it’s earned its place in electric car history. Now, Nissan has reimagined it for a new generation - more practical, more high-tech, and much more stylish.
Built in Sunderland, UK, the new LEAF sits on the same platform as the Nissan Ariya and is part of Nissan’s EV36Zero plan, which focuses on making EV production cleaner and more efficient.
There are two battery options available:
Battery | Usable Capacity | WLTP Range |
---|---|---|
Standard | 52kWh | Up to 436km* |
Extended | 75kWh | Up to 604km* |
*WLTP range figures are indicative and may vary based on driving conditions.
(*final figures pending approval)
And with DC fast charging up to 150kW, Nissan says you’ll be able to top up around 417km of range in just 30 minutes, making long-distance trips across Ireland and beyond far more feasible.
The new LEAF integrates Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Play Store directly into a pair of 14.3” infotainment screens. You can plan a route with built-in EV-friendly navigation that identifies charging points along the way, or pre-heat the car using the NissanConnect app.
It also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging, meaning you can plug devices directly into the car - ideal for camping or working remotely. It’s also Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) ready, which could eventually let you feed unused electricity back into the grid at home.
Gone is the quirky hatchback shape of the old model. This one’s a sleek crossover, with a drag coefficient of 0.25 for improved efficiency. It’s more practical too, with 437 litres of boot space and the option of a power tailgate.
There are up to seven paint colours, including Nissan’s signature turquoise (Luminous Teal), and wheel sizes range from 18" to 19", depending on the spec. Inside, it’s cleaner and more modern, with ambient lighting and either black or white trim with purple accents.
Nissan has packed the new LEAF with useful safety and driver assistance systems, including:
ProPILOT Assist with traffic-aware cruise control
e-Pedal Step for one-pedal driving with adjustable regen braking
360° cameras, including an “Invisible Hood View” and wide-angle front camera
Lane Keep Assist, Driver Monitoring, and more as standard
For Irish drivers looking for a family car or a long-range commuter, the new LEAF seems to tick many boxes. Highlights include:
A spacious interior with good rear legroom
BOSE® audio system with a headrest speaker for the driver
An optional panoramic glass roof
Fast charging and thermal battery pre-conditioning for winter mornings
Nissan says orders will open this Autumn, with first deliveries expected in early 2026. Pricing for Ireland hasn’t been confirmed yet, but expect it to be competitive with rivals like the Volkswagen ID.3, MG4, and Peugeot e-3008.
