The next generation Hyundai Tucson - to be rolled out in the late summer/early autumn - will have a 48v mild hybrid system in tandem with its 186bhp 2-litre diesel engine.
That makes it the first model in the marque's line-up to have such a set-up.
Hyundai say the revised Tucson has undergone a major design update as well as the inclusion of the mild hybrid. The system supports the engine under acceleration with up to 12kW which helps cut fuel consumption.
It automatically switches between mechanical use of the engine and energy recuperation.
Hyundai reckon there will be a fuel saving of up to 7pc (under NEDC tests).
Next spring, the 48-v mild-hybrid technology will be on the car's new 1.6-litre diesel engine, according to the company.
