Skoda's popular Octavia has got a mid-life facelift. The new range goes on sale next month and prices start from €19,750 ex-works.

One development is the company's Connected services technology. Smartlink+ is a smartphone integration system that works with Apple Car Play and Google Android Auto and comes on the second-tier Ambition trim (Active is entry-level).

There is also the Columbus navigation and infotainment system (standard on top-level Style) as well as an LTE SIM card slot for a high-speed wi-fi hotspot in the car.

Among an optional number of additional driver assistance functions is the Emergency Call (e-Call). It automatically calls emergency services when an airbag is activated.

Among mechanical/technological options are Trailer Assist, Predictive Pedestrian Protection, Blind Spot Detect and Rear Traffic Alert.

Among the outside changes are a new radiator grille and additional headlights while Ambition models get new LED taillights, electric folding mirrors and a reversing camera as standard.

Estates (Combi) cost €1,000 more. Skoda charge an additional €600 for delivery/related charges.

Almost 55,000 Octavias have been bought new since it first came to Ireland in 1998.

Skoda's city-car Citigo has also got a refresh.
